With the development of MEMS inertial sensor, the wearable inertial sensor is a convenient way for pedestrian dead-reckoning (PDR). Designing the navigation algorithm that computes the step, stride and heading through data from inertial sensors is the key issue of pedestrian dead-reckoning. Many methods have been suggested to detect a step. But they focus on the step taken in horizontal plane, so the stride is achieved in two dimensions. In order to expand the application of PDR to three dimensions, our work is gait recognition between step detection and stride determination. The gait recognition algorithm takes advantage of pattern recognition method to analyze MEMS inertial sensors output.
