Ru was deposited onto Pt by atomic layer deposition to fabricate anodes for direct methanol solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The performance of the SOFCs with Ru/Pt anodes regarding methanol oxidation was compared with that of the SOFCs with pure Pt anodes. The values of maximum power density of the Ru/Pt SOFC were 4.1 mW/cm~2 at 400 °C and 7.8 mW/cm~2 at 450 °C. The electrochemical properties of the SOFCs were analyzed by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The morphology of Ru on the microporous Pt was investigated via scanning electron microscopy.
