Attribute Based Information Centric Networking for IoT Applications

Information Centric Networking (ICN) is gaining popularity. Accessing data in ICN requires names of the data be specified. For example, Named Data Network (NDN) request packets have names of data objects. Location is hidden from the request sender, but identifying the names of the data objects is up to the request sender. We have developed the Keyword Based Content Retrieval (KBCR) in the past in which enable keywords as destination of request packets. This made application development easier because application users do not need to identify exact name of the data the application wants to use. However it is not compatible with existing HTTP based devices. An HTTP proxy based network node that can map user requests to devices intended to facilitate IoT device access is presented. This node selects target devices by matching attribute values associated with URI of an HTTP request against attribute values of IoT device metadata. This mechanism enables application development without worrying about the number and whereabouts of devices owned by other organizations.
