Analysis of a new high-frequency structure for the terahertz amplifier

A new high-frequency structure for the terahertz amplifier is presented. The structure combined the properties of the grating and sub-wavelength holes array. We focused on discussing the influence of sub-wavelength hole shape, grating shape and the structure parameters on dispersion characteristics, coupling impedance, and the distribution of the electric field. Compared with the traditional rectangular grating structure, the results indicate that the transverse electric field distribution of the new structure is more uniform. Applied to the sheet electron beam-driven vacuum electron amplifiers, it will enlarge the interaction space, improve efficiency and increase the stability of beam-wave interaction. Furthermore, the shape of grating will have a significant impact on dispersion, which can provide a potential to increase bandwidth of the devices.
