Traffic information processing using the location history data on the vehicular telematics system

Based on the location history data being collected from a vehicular telematics system, this paper designs and implements a traffic information processing framework, addressing the characteristics of standard digital map employed for the traffic information service, how to match the location coordinate to the map, and traffic statistics for the hot links. In dealing with a road segment connected by two adjacent directional links on the coarse-grained road network, generally used for the traffic information service, the developed map match procedure takes into account the vehicle's heading and speed in addition to the distance criteria to reduce the possibility of mismatch. 21.3% of 380, 509 locations are turned out to be reported from the road segment not contained in the road network, while the lunch time shows the largest unmatch ratio. From our current version telematics system consist of 200 taxis, the framework finds 54 hot links whose link speed can be estimated, indicating that more vehicle enrollments can significantly improve the number of hot links and the quality of traffic information service.
