Model identifiction and controller design of a hydraulic cylinder based on pole placement

Electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) is widely used in industrial processes because of its linear movement, fast response and accurate positioning of heavy load thus making it important tools for industrial processes. But, behaviors such as highly nonlinearities, uncertainties and time varying characteristics of EHA system causing the controlling process become difficult. To design a controller to control electro-hydraulic actuator, a model to show the system behavior needs to be obtained first. System identification is used for modeling. By using experimental data to make model, this method is easier to apply and less complicated than using Physical Law method. Research shows that using pole-placement method is adequate to control EHA. Based on RMSE and best fit, ARX331 is the best model representation of real electro-hydraulic system and the easiest to use to control EHA to get the most similar simulation to real plant.
