Recently, the increasing interest in energy efficiency issues in the last decade has reached a climax. Since most of the electrical energy consumed in the industry is used by electric motors, the concept of more efficient motors has become one of the focal points of the energy standards. By the continuous improvements in efficiency classes, motor manufacturers start to work on different motor technologies and propose different motor types to the users. In this study, IE4 efficiency class requirements are targeted with 3-phase, 100-frame, 3 kW, 4-pole line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor design. In the design phases, the stator of 4-pole, 3 kW asynchronous motor with IE3 efficiency class, is used, and a new magnet assembly and rotor cage are designed. 2D magnetic field analysis of the motor is performed using FEM based FLUX 2D electromagnetic analysis program.
