Modular Power Electronic Transformer and its Direct Power Control

This paper presents the design and hardware implementation of a modular power electronic transformer (PET). Specifically, the designs of the key components of the system, including both power stage and control system, are presented in detail. In addition, a novel direct power control (DPC) strategy combining voltage balancing control is proposed for modular PET to realize stable operation even in distorted voltage conditions. Lastly, simulations and experiments on the prototype are given to demonstrate the performance of the modular PET. Also the analysis under different scenarios are conducted to verify the following advanced features: 1) reactive power regulation; 2) low no-load loss; 3) high performance in distorted voltage conditions.
