Fusion Positioning of BDS/GPS Based on Variance Component Estimation and Its Application for Geodetic Control Network

Beidou Satellite Navigation System (BDS), developed by China, is an independent satellite navigation system, which is recognized as one of the four major Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in the world. Now, BDS has a constellation of fourteen navigation satellites and the regional satellite navigation system of BDS has been constructed. The system can provide high quality services in China and its surrounding areas, and is extending into global. In this paper, the current status of BDS and GPS is introduced at first. And then, the algorithm of high precision fusion positioning with combination of BDS and GPS is studied based on variance component estimation. Finally, a GNSS geodetic control network is performed as an example, which contains eight points with corresponding baselines ranged from 40 to 200 km. It is proved that, combining BDS and GPS data can present better results than that of any single navigation system using the proposed algorithm and the accuracies of position are better than 1 cm.
