A power allocation scheme for D2D communication with enhanced throughput

The Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is an emerging technology which allows two user devices to communicate directly without passing through the Base Station (BS) and thus it can improve the performance of traditional wireless communication systems. However D2D communication may incur interferences to the cellular User Equipment (UE) and other D2D pairs which use the same channel to communicate. Many of the existing power allocation schemes for D2D communications focus on reducing the interferences of UEs so as to satisfy the QoS requirement and maximize the total data rate of all the D2D pairs. The QoS requirement of UEs is achieved by reducing the transmission power of every D2D pair which may interfere the UEs. However, this approach may greatly lower the data rate of the D2D pair with high data rate and hence it is not likely to achieve the highest total data rate of all the D2D pairs. To improve the existing power allocation schemes, a new power allocation scheme is proposed. The proposed power allocation scheme chooses the light-weight D2D pairs, which have lower data transmission rates and incur higher interferences to the UEs and the other D2D pairs, to reduce their transmission power as much as possible first so as to achieve higher total data rate of all the D2D pairs and enhance the throughput of the networks. Simulations results have shown that the proposed power allocation scheme can achieve higher total data rates than that of the existing scheme.
