A photosynthetic-plasmonic-voltaic (PPV) cell: Excitation of cyanobacteria and current collection through a plasmonic substrate

In this work, we demonstrate photosynthetic excitation of biofilms and electric current collection with a plasmonic substrate. This two-fold use of the plasmonic substrate helps address light delivery issues due to densification of photosynthetic cultures, allowing cogeneration of electricity and biofuel in an optofluidic photobioreactor.
