EFFECTIVE PLANT PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT USING PLANT AUTOMATION

Automation plays an important part in the overall efficiency of plant operations. However it has been experienced that in many plants automation has failed to produce the desired results. Our experience of being an automation partner to several sugar companies, shows that wherever the automation has not produced desired results, the major reason has been the inability of plant personnel to accept automation as a tool to increase productivity. They feel that automation challenges their skills and try to dismiss it very quickly. We firmly believe that to achieve the benefits of automation, companies should shift the plant floor management towards a third party ie outsource the O&M and have only key personnel on the company rolls to set and monitor production targets.
