This paper studies the management of transshipment flows in a container terminal whichconsists of designing a visiting schedule template for feeder vessels and determiningstorage locations for transshipment containers. A mixed integer programming formulationis developed with an objective of minimizing the total distance travelled by transshipmentflows between quayside and storage yard as well as the workload imbalance in time. Tosolve the problem we devise an algorithm based on Lagrangian relaxation to find nearoptimalsolutions within short computational times. Numerical experiments are conductedto assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the algorithm and the benefit from adjustingfeeder visiting schedule.
