In Japan, wind power generators have been built in local areas with suitable wind conditions,while photovoltaics (PV) have been introduced throughout the power system. Accordingly,when considering the high penetration of distributed generation, it is necessary to investigatevarious issues ranging from local voltage problems to the stability of the power system itself.This paper describes a simulation model of a wind power generator which was developed toevaluate the influences of wind power generation on the power system, and to verify theapplicability of the model through time-domain (digital) simulation. We describe thedeveloped model first, and then evaluate it using actual measurements. A simplification forfaster simulation is also discussed. The computation time and accuracy of the detailed andsimplified models are compared.In this paper, time-domain simulation is also used to clarify the fundamental influences oftransmission system faults on the power system with high penetration of PV. While the rotorangle stability and frequency stability are improved with low penetration of PV, the stabilityworsens with high penetration of PV. However, the stability worsens with low penetration ofPV if PVs are installed to increase the load flow of the tie line.Both simulation and experimental results are reviewed. The experiment used equipment suchas PV solar panels and residential-use power conditioning systems for PV which was newlyinstalled in CRIEPI's Power System Simulator in order to evaluate the impacts of systemfaults on the transmission line system assuming the high penetration of PV. An example of atest result on one machine to an infinite bus system with 24 residential-use PCSs is introduced.
