Printing has been used to deposit a traditional pyrotechnic delay composition. This haspresented a number of research challenges compared against conventional delaydevices produced via a powder compaction route. Previous research has determinedthe Critical Ink Film Thickness (CIFT) required to facilitate a self – sustaining burn. Asimple PDE solver that captures the influence of reaction rate, pre – exponentialfactor, activation energy, auto – ignition temperature, and geometry has beendeveloped and compared with experimental data showing very good agreementbetween predicted and measured values. The model is flexible allowing a full range ofgeometrical parameters that can influence a burn to be investigated.
