AVESTARTM Center: Dynamic Simulation-based Collaboration Toward Achieving Operational Excellence for IGCC Plants with Carbon Capture

To address challenges in attaining operational excellence for clean energy plants, theNational Energy Technology Laboratory has launched a world-class facility for AdvancedVirtual Energy Simulation Training And Research (AVESTARTM). The AVESTAR Centerbrings together state-of-the-art, real-time, high-fidelity dynamic simulators with operatortraining systems and 3D virtual immersive training systems into an integrated energy plantand control room environment. This paper will highlight the AVESTAR Centersimulators, facilities, and comprehensive training, education, and research programsfocused on the operation and control of an integrated gasification combined cycle powerplant (IGCC) with carbon dioxide capture.
