A wide range of metals and non-metals, from particularly "difficult-to-cut" materials such as ceramics, marble, granite to layered composites can be cut and machined by abrasive waterjet (AWJ). It also allows the flexibility of cutting intricate shapes not possible via traditional tools. The current paper aims at conducting a study on the performance prediction of AWJ in granitic rock cutting. The experiments were executed on the basis of Taguchi approach. The cutting performance of AWJ was assessed based on the cut wear zone depth of the granites. The relationships between material properties and cutting performance (cut wear zone) were investigated and the models for prediction of the cut wear zone depth were established through correlation technique and regression analysis respectively. Additionally, the developed models were verified by some statistical tests.
