The consolidation of gamma titanium aluminides by hot-working is often hampered through the liability to shear localization and cracking. The phenomena are particularly pronounced during severe deformation. This provided the opportunity for a detailed investigation of the underlying shear localization mechanisms, which will be presented in the following.
