This paper presents the creative research works and research progress in new technology and process of titanium metallurgy by Special Metallurgy Innovative Group(SMG)of Northeastern University in China. Including such fields as followings:the new technologies of boiling chlorinating of natural rutile.the pressure leaching directly of vanadium slag,preparation of titanium and titanium alloy by multi-step metal thermal reduction, and the clean product process of titanium sponge. The basic laws of chlorinating reactions of natural rutile in fluidized bed and its appropriate operating conditions were determined. The new technology of pressure leaching directly of vanadium slag without roasting was proposed for its comprehensive utilization. The multi-step metal thermal reduction method was developed for preparation of titanium and its ferrous-titanium alloy with low oxygen and had been applied to semi-industry experiment. The new clean process was developed based on directly thermal decomposition of MgCl2 for recycle of Mg and Cl2 in titanium sponge production process,including preparation of multi-silicon from by-product SiCl4.
