Agglomerate-free and highly-crystallized HAp nanocrystals could be synthesized by a unique calcination method with the anti-sintering agent, poly(acrylic acid, calcium salt), which prevented calcination-induced sintering among the nanocrystals. The surfaces of PLLA fibers or microspheres were uniformly coated with the HAp nanocrystals through ionic interaction between the calcium ions on the nanocrystals and carboxyl groups of PLLA. The HAp nanocrystal coated PLLA will be useful as a novel dental material showing bioactivity, bioabsorbability and flexibility.
