The porous scaffold prepared by compounding the sol-gel derived bioactive glass (S8S), type Ⅰ collagen possessed a high porosity and 3D interconnected porous structure. The pore size distributed from 10μm to 200μm. The biomimetic composition, high porosity and the structure of 3D inter-connective pores of the composite were favorable for cells adhesion, migration and growth. The mechanical property of the porous scaffold would also be improved due to interaction between the two constituents. After the rMSC combined with collagen/bioactive glass composite, the scaffold was induced ectopic osteogenesis in back muscles of nude mice. The porous scaffold with the improved mechanical property can be considered a promising kind of biomaterials for bone restoration and bone tissue engineering.
