PVA-based gradient hydrogels were fabricated by inducing gradient distribution of magnetic HAP nanorods in order to mimic the multiphasic structure of articular cartilage and subchondral bone. The current study demonstrated that the inclusion of HAP nanorods decreased the pore size of gels and thus improved the compressive strength of hydrogels. The bio-functionality such as gradient adhesion and growth on such hydrogels is being studied.
