In summary, we demonstrate a biocompatible magnetofluorescent T_1 MRI contrast agent for targeted MRI and fluorescence imaging of cancer cells based on silica-coated Mn_3O_ 4 NPs. The in vitro confocal microscopic imaging, and MRI studies show that the Mn_3O_ 4@SiO_2(RBITC)-TM NPs can specifically target to cancer cells. The silica-coated Mn_3O_ 4 NPs provided a unique platform for targeting and bimodal imaging of other biological systems.
