The silky-smooth and durable PLA 96 non woven promotes connective tissue formation and vascularization in subcutaneous space of nude mouse. Constructs containing chondrocytes showed no cartilage formation. However, when the scaffolds containing chondrocytes were used to repair a cartilage lesion in pigs articular cartilage surface of the knee joint, preliminary results (macroscopical evaluation) indicate repair tissue formation.
