Local applications of stem cells and/or signal molecule to the repair sites have been suggested as two major approaches for tissue repair. Using hydrogel as cell delivery vehicle has its advantageous for its ability to be injected through a needle. However, cells in many synthetic hydrogel carriers exhibited very low cell viability since they presented a devoid of cell-matrix interaction environment. For growth factor delivery, its short half life and adverse effect with high dose administration have been major obstacles in its application. In this study, we proposed an injectable gel system which serves two roles in tissue repair, serving as an injectable cell delivery vehicle and programmable growth factor delivery apparatus.
