Titanium and titanium-based alloys possess excellent properties (load-bearing, low density, and biocompatibility) and have been widely used as artificial implants in dental, bone replacement, and orthopedic surgery. However, Ti-based surfaces suffer from severe limitations: lack of osseointegration, a long healing time. In this report, we present a method to modify Ti surfaces with sparse copolymer brushes of poly(oligo (ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (Poly(OEGMA-r-HEMA)) that can tailor Fibronectin (FN) and recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) to promote the adhesion and osseointegration of preosteoblasts.
