A research project is currently underway in New Zealand which is developing a quantitative risk assessment tool for fire safety engineering practitioners. One important component of the new computer tool is a process to automatically generate design fire heat release rate curves (called a "design fire generator") for the occupancy under consideration. This paper describes the verification of the design fire generator algorithms, a parametric study of sensitivity to key input variables, as well as providing an indication of the range of design fire outputs that are produced.
