A cross-layer priority algorithm that combines the channel state with the quality of the video traffic is suggested to optimize the required quality of service of the video streams over a multihop wireless sensor network. By giving higher priority to the basic frames, the orphan enhancement frames are minimized, a noticeable improvement in the end-to-end delay of the video stream was achieved, in addition to the enhanced quality of the received video stream. It was noticed however, that an increase in the average jitter delay resulted, but with a minor effect on the global system performance.
