The chemical oxidation degradation of aqueous solutions of the herbicide acetochlor,which are environmental priority pollutants,was studied by means of single oxidants (peroxide hydrogen,potassium peroxymonopersulfate,and Fenton's reagent),and by the advanced oxidation processes constituted by combinations of these oxidants with potassium peroxymonopersulfate of modified Fenton's reagent.In the single pre-chemical process,the influence of pH,temperature,and use of was investigated,and the degradation rates were evaluated by determining their first-order rate constants and the half-lives.The effect of the additional presence of Fenton's reagent was established in the combined process,and the specific contribution of the pathway to the overall degradation was determined.In the oxidation processes by Fenton's reagent,the removals obtained and the first-order rate constants were also evaluated.The improvement in the decomposition levels reached by the combined processes in relation to the single oxidants was dearly demonstrated,due to the generation of the very reactive hydroxyl radicals.
