In Taiwan,rainfall is concentrated and unevenly distributed,and the river discharge volume is altered drastically by the strength and concentration of rainfall during the typhoon periods.Traditional means of manually observing high-volume discharge are time-consuming and dangerous.A non-contact continuous-wave microwave radar apparatus would be more suitable for measuring the vdocity of river surface currents with a high discharge and further estimating the discharge volume.In this study,we applied a method using a linear prediction coefficient (LPC) to replace traditional signalaveraging by fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis.The objective of this study is to determine a more accurate surface velocity measure by analyzing the backscattered signals produced by the actual river surface currents and filtering the interferences produced by the environment.
