In case of a major disturbance of the interconnected 380-kV system in Europe each transmission system operator (TSO) is responsible for preparing a restoration plan to re-energize the system after blackouts as quickly as possible. One recommended approach is the re-energization of separated blacked out areas with the help of external voltage sources. This paper analyzes the energization of a 380-kV subsystem that includes four 1000-MVA, unloaded (de-energized) autotransformers from a neighboring 380-kV transmission system.
