Aeration, a unit process in which air and water are brought into intimate contact, is an extremely important step in the process of wastewater treatment. It was found that the bubbles oxygenate the water behind the bubbles while it travels toward the top surface in the water pool. This system reduces the oxygen transfer efficiency as the diffuser releases the bubble on the same path as air bubbles travel in oxygen saturated water. To overcome this problem a bubble deflector was designed and tested to improve a mixing process within the tank and improve oxygen transfer efficiency.
