摘要

A new ice crystal generation and conveyance system (IGS) has been established at the TU Braunschweig Icing Wind Tunnel. The system allows to perform wind tunnel tests at glaciated and mixed phase icing conditions. As a special characteristic, ice particles are produced by custom made cloud chambers to generate close replicates to natural ice crystals. This paper describes the design, commissioning and calibration process of the IGS. The functionality of the system is described in detail. Results of the calibration with regard to ice cloud concentrations, ice particle sizes and shapes as well as aerodynamic parameters of the wind tunnel now are presented and discussed.
