Teaching Format Diversity in Biophysics Applied in Health Care Engineering Education

During the last decade, new software tools and the access to learning contents at any time via web and internet has created new formats in transfer of knowledge, skills and comprehension. The learning effect and the efficiency of these new tools compared to traditional material and format of teaching and learning is the focus of controversies. During the initial hype of introducing the new technologies in general little attention was given on the need of human resources to produce the different types of learning material and on the individual efficiency of each of the methods compared to traditional material. We claim that poly-format teaching (we mean with it using as many types of material and teaching formats as possible, even if they seem sometimes redundant in content) would match best the diversity of learning types among students. This work describes an example of poly-format teaching fundamental biomechanics applied on the healing process of a bone fracture. A group of students was exposed to the largest possible variability of traditional and new learning material theme. After the end of the course, the students evaluate and rank the individual material and learning formats.
