DEVELOPING STANDARDS GUIDELINES FOR MARINE ENERGY DEVICES

It must be remembered that location plays a great part in the performance of marine energy converters and predictions based on one location should be treated with care when applied to a different location. This is applicable to wave and tidal devices and the interpretation of resource assessments and device test results derived by using the EMEC guides and standards will not of itself remove that potential pitfall. However, a basis for making initial judgments about anticipated performance of devices in different sea areas may be derived by following the guidance in the documents, although more detailed survey and testing will provide the most reliable results.
