An overview of the construction of the Core-locTM armoured breakwater at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland

The number of breakages equates to less than 1% of the total number of 1167. The functionality of the breakwater has not been affected by the breakages as the main parameters of crest width, height, slope gradient and Core-loc™ packing density remain unchanged. The units, having been moved and damaged along the seaward face of the breakwater remain well interlocked and therefore the structural integrity of the breakwater remains intact. It will continue to act in the same way in reducing the incident wave height along its seaward face and diffracting incident waves at the roundheads.
