FCC Additive Improves Residue Processing Economics with High Iron Feeds

A breakthrough in understanding the mechanisms of iron metal poisoning has helped to identify CAT-AID as an effective iron trap. CAT-AID applications in various refineries have shown that iron poisoning can be cured without reformulating fresh catalyst or using flushing Ecat. Analysis of Ecat in CAT-AID applications confirms the reduction in iron poisoning - demonstrated by disappearance of iron nodules, an increase in gasoline yield, and reduction in coke and dry gas yields. Three commercial examples have been presented which demonstrate that CAT-AID can be used to lower delta coke and increase residue processing. In addition, a refiner can capitalize on the benefits of CAT-AID by improving FCC product selectivities and reducing catalyst addition rate. CAT-AID is the only commercially available effective iron trap.
