Free Vibration Analysis of Ring-Stiffened Cylindrical Shells Based on Transfer Matrix Method

Transfer matrix method is applied to investigate the natural frequencies and natural modes of ring-stiffened cylindrical shells in this paper. Field transfer matrix of the shell segments is obtained using the Flugge shell theory, point transfer matrix of the rings is derived considering their in-plane vibrations and coupled vibrations between bending and torsional deformations simultaneously. The precise integration technique, instead of the Runge-Kutta-Gill method used in previous papers, is employed to calculate the elements of the field transfer matrix. Numerical results reveal that transfer matrix method using the Flugge shell theory is very accurate, and influence of the rings on the shells' frequencies is complicated and depends upon the ring eccentricities.
