The power optimization of massive storage system is an important part of the whole high performance computing system power optimization. Checkpoint is an important method keeping system available. In this paper, three different power states are defined for optimizing the power of storage servers. After finishing checkpoint, computing nodes send an instruction to storage server to change its power state. If storage server accommodates several checkpoint image files, it receives several power instructions at the same time which may conflict. State set is used to avoid such conflict and make them work properly. We use power meter to evaluate the effectiveness of power optimization.
