Noise panel report: ICAO CAEP Workshop, Assessing current scientific knowledge, uncertainties and gaps in quantifying climate change, noise and air quality aviation impacts

This paper reports the results from the Noise Panel portion of an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Committee on Aviation and Environmental Protection (CAEP) Workshop, held on 29 October - 2 November 2007 in Montreal, Canada. To enlarge its knowledge base and bring new facets to the work of the Committee, thereby allowing it to keep track of the top research developments, CAEP organizes periodic international workshops to seek advice on timely and emerging new areas, like the impacts of aircraft noise and aircraft engine emissions on health and wellbeing. The 2007 workshop was a successful example of how CAEP gathers the best available expertise and delivers it to the aviation community in order to support informed decision making. The results of this workshop have provided critical input to ICAO and will allow further developments in this field. The ICAO CAEP Workshop in Montreal in 2007 brought together a large group of international experts who are involved in CAEP activities related to aircraft policy and research support activities, thus forming a unique international forum for the study and development of proposals to minimize aviation's effects on the environment.
