A control-oriented dynamic model for a ball mill coal-pulverizing system (BMCPS) has been developed by using mechanism analysis and experiment identification. The nonlinear equations are obtained based on simplified physical model and previous efforts in BMCPS modeling. Through computation of known physical values, identification of grouped coefficients, and heuristic adjustments, the model parameters are determined. The simulated results agreed well with the experimental data, suggesting that the model developed is very accurate and captures well the nonlinear and strong coupling characteristics of the BMCPS modeled. It is expected that the model developed can be directly used for the synthesis of model-based control algorithms, as well as setting up a real-time simulator for testing of new BMCPS control schemes.
