TOWARDS A NOVEL PROPOSAL OF A SOLAR POLYGENERATION SYSTEM FOR MOROCCO'S PUBLIC HOSPITALS

The idea of integrating polygeneration system in hospitals came from the characteristic that healthcare facilities require simultaneously different forms of energy (heat, steam, electricity and cooling) with the necessity of permanently guaranteed availability of the energy throughout the year. Therefore, since Morocco expects to benefit largely from solar energy, a solar polygeneration system applied for hospitals seems the adequate way to respond to the National Energy Efficiency strategy launched by the Morocco's Ministry of Health. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate and examine energetic problematic faced by most hospitals in Morocco presented through a case study of a 250-bed hospital, and to establish a configuration of a solar polygeneration system that will remedy energetic concerns. The proposed system, consisting of both Concentrating Photovoltaic Thermal Systems (CPV/T), and Combined Cooling, Heating and Power plant (CCHP), recovers the energy rejected by the overall CPV, incinerator and boiler, in order to predict an optimal size of both CPV/T and CCHP plant which still require a considerable investment. In addition, it will achieve greater energy efficiency, provide more comfort to patients and caregivers, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
