摘要

Hot in-place recycling (HIPR) is a pavement rehabilitation method which is relativelynew in Malaysia. Since its inception in early 1990?s, the process of heating up andloosening the existing bituminous surface, followed by mixing with or without a smallquantity of rejuvenating agent prior to laying back at the same location in a singlepass operation has been proven in reshaping uneven surface and ?removing? shallowsurface cracks, minor rutting, as well as raveling and stripping. However, treatingbleeding surface using this technique without adding new materials is indeed adaunting task. The challenges that arise in rectifying this type of surface defectinclude making sure that the excess binder content is no longer detrimental to thesurfacing material, and compaction of the recycled material containing the agehardenedbinder is adequate without creating too large air voids that wouldconsequently affect the durability in the future. This paper highlights the treatmentdone on severely bleeding surface of the newly completed Lebuh AMJ in Melakausing the HIPR technique.
