Path Selection for the Development of China's National Park: Based on an International Comparison after a Survey of 'The First National Park in Mainland China'

The development of China's national park has already been at a turning point. It is of great practical significance to determine the path selection for its future development on the basis of the in-depth study of the international experience and the case study of the concrete situation in China. As compared with the shared vision of three typical kinds of national park in the world from the management philosophy, management organizations, source of funding, operating mechanism, the management system of "the first national park in mainland China" is not yet in match with the internationally accepted practice. The suggested path for the future development of China's national park is to reconstruct a protected area system based on IUCN standards, to establish a corporate governance system of the Conservation Council at three levels to reengineer the present compartmentalized hierarchical management system, to implement the franchise system and guaranty mechanism of stakeholder's interests, and to increase investment of public funds and abolish the tickets business gradually to make natural heritage resources return to the public interest.
