Facile Synthesis of Monodisperse CdS Nanospheres Capped with Allyl Thiourea

Highly monodisperse CdS nanospheres capped with allyl thiourea were synthesized via facile hydrothermal method without any surfactants. The products were characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, phololuminescence and FT-IR spectra. It shows that the diameter of the nanospheres is about 300nm and the nanospheres are composed of nanoplates. The concentration of the reagent, the ratio of sulfide to cadmium source material and the cadmium source were found to play important roles to the morphologies of CdS. The photolumincscence spectrum of the nanospheres shows about 60nm blue shift compared with that of bulk CdS. The formation mechanism has also been discussed.
