Tactical data link system is one of the important communication networks used in military operations, and receiving an increasing interest. To evaluate the performance of polling-based tactical data link system effectively, and provide a theoretical basis for system optimization, the paper analyses the stability, real-time and capacity of the pollingbased tactical data link system based on Markov chain theory and probability generating function. We present the analytical expression of stability condition, average polling period, response time of slave station and network control station, and system capacity for polling-based tactical data link system. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis is verified by simulation, and some useful conclusions are given. Our results provide a benchmark when evaluating and optimizing polling protocol for tactical data link system.
