Agent-based Modeling for Safety Analysis of Chemical Process

Safety is an important task in chemical plants and plays a significant role throughout the whole design process. To meet safety and environmental demands of chemical plants, a thorough safety analysis is often already performed in early design phase. As the most chemical processes that we need to analyze and model are becoming more complex in terms of their interdependencies, conventional modeling methods may not be as applicable as they once were. This paper introduces an agent-based approach to process hazard identification by simulation and reach-ability examinations of dangerous plant states.
