In VoIP networks, the SIP proxy servers can be in a form of cluster to provide high availability avoiding service unavailability caused by software failure or hardware crash. The design of cluster architecture will face the single-point-of-failure, reliability, and availability problems. In this paper, we design and implement a high availability architecture that includes n + 1 dispatchers to control m SIP proxy servers with database storage for various media applications. We also propose the fast failover strategy and efficient load balancing strategy in our architecture. Experimental results show that our proposed architecture not only reduces the failover procedure by about 70% of improvement but also shortens the server failover time by about 65% of time.
