A Reliable Two Phase Packet Loss Recovery Routing for VoIP Applications

Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) deployments has increased over commercial organizations, reliability and availability has become important issues. VoIP packets are sensitive to packet losses and transmission delay to assure correct communication. This paper proposes a reliable two phase packet loss recovery routing scheme based on forward error correction technique for VoIP applications. With this approach packet losses against link failures can be recovered by protecting the first and second phase paths using forward error correction techniques. VoIP packets can be routed with quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees while balancing the load without reconfiguration of the network in response to traffic changes. Simulation results are reported to show the efficiency of the proposed technique for effective VoIP packet flows.
