The projectile engraving is a part in the research of the electromagnetic railgun and the process is dynamic. The factors including the structure size of barrel and projectile and the friction coefficient have a great influence on the engraving process. In this paper, the projectile squeezing into the barrel was simulated with the finite element analysis software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. The barrel and the projectile were established by a quarter of finite element model. Different simulation results can be obtained by changing one of the factors. The effects of the friction coefficient and the amount of interference between the projectile and the rail in the process are discussed and analyzed. Those results have some reference value on the design of the electromagnetic rail gun's structure.
